Animation and Augmented Reality artist Grace Barnes’ body of work ‘A Foot in Two Worlds’ explores two potential futures; The Anthropocene and the Symbiocene.

Originally displayed as six static ‘Anthropocene’ potential future images, with six corresponding ‘Symbiocene’ augmented reality images, this suite of works is inspired by the lived experiences of those in the Hunter Valley, and Glenn A Albrecht’s work ‘Earth Emotions – New Words for a New World’.

Made in collaboration with the community the artist’s hope is that it ignites critical conversations about her home the Hunter Valley, and the desire for a future that is safe and abundant for all. The main premise is, that the first step towards this future is about imagining.

Symbiocene: A new era in history where humanity and the environment are living in symbiosis together.

Anthropocene: A proposed era of human history where human activities have substantially altered the Earth.
